Dave Bain is a Bristol, UK-based illustrator, producing work for an eclectic range of commercial and independent clients. Working primarily in traditional mediums of paint and screen-printing, with an underlying emphasis on drawing, he has turned his hand to all manner of projects including shoe pattern design, children’s books, advertising, live drawing and large mural artwork.
Dave is passionate about creating images, and in addition to his illustration practice, he regularly produces series of personal artworks for exhibition in national and international galleries.
Dave Bain graduated from Falmouth College of Arts with a BA degree in Illustration. He works in a number of ways, primarily with traditional media, such as painting, drawing, screen-printing and mixed media techniques, as well as using digital software.
Dave Bain’s illustrative works capture the energy and vitality of birds and draw on the many influences in his life, including his involvement with street art — hinted at by the drips of bright colour and boldness of line in his paintings.
His detailed site-specific work for Chapter reflects his obsession with pure drawing, continuous line, vibrant colour and simple structure playfully interwoven with complex patterns.
He has painted live on the BBC, as well as worked with local and national companies on live illustration commissions. His work is highly commended by the Macmillan Children’s Prize and also appears in various illustration annuals, zines, and the book, ‘Illustration – A Theoretical & Contextual Perspective’ written by Alan Male (AVA Academia – 2007).
You can also spy his mural work, mostly, in and around the city of Bristol, UK.
